The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) is Pakistan’s one of the largest banks handled by the Government of Pakistan. It is the central bank after the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). State Bank of Pakistan & National Bank of Pakistan both are running a bundle of education-friendly programs to promote education in Pakistan.

National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Students loan scheme is one of its initiatives to help students seeking higher education in the country. NBP is offering a zero mark-up loan scheme to the students who are willing to persue their graduation, post-graduation, M.Phil & Ph.D. studies in approved subjects in public universities within Pakistan.

NBP Loan Scheme Eligibility Criteria

Here are the general criteria to be eligible to apply for the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Mark-up free Students Loan Scheme.

  • Minimum 70% marks in the last public examination.
  • Must be willing to study one of the NBP’s listed areas of study.
  • Applicants should be desirous & unable to afford education financially.
  • The student must be the applicant of a public university recommended by NBP for admission.
  • He/She obtained admission on merit through the normal procedure in any of the public institutions recommended by NBP.
  • Only graduation, post-graduation, MPhil & Ph.D. students are eligible.
  • The age restriction for the NBP loan scheme is as:
    • Maximum 21 Years for Graduation
    • Maximum 31 Years for Post-graduation
    • Maximum 36 Years for PhD

Type of loan (Inclusives of NBP Loan)

The following are included in the NBP loan scheme:

  • University/College fee
  • Boarding Expenses
  • Procurement of textbooks

Note: Fee & Boarding expenses will be directly disbursed to the university & textbooks charges will be directly given to the student.

Loan repayment

The maximum period of repayment of the loan is 10-Years from the date of disbursement of the first installment. The borrower shall repay the loan in monthly installments after six months from the date of first employment or one year from the date of completion of studies, whichever is earlier.

  11. DAWA & Islamic Jurisprudence (LLB/LLM Sharia)
  12. Computer Science/Information System & Technology including Hardware
  13. Economics, Statistics & Econometrics
  14. Business Management Sciences
  15. Commerce

How to apply for NBP Loan for education

  • Application Forms are available from the designated branches mentioned above or may be downloaded from the National Bank of Pakistan website www.nbp.com.pk/studentloan.
  • Students are advised to submit two (2) sets of student loan applications.
  • Applicants are required to submit/send their applications on the prescribed form, duly completed in all respect, to the designated branches indicated against each University/College by the given date. Incomplete application shall not be entertained.
  • Students who have already availed of the facility last year(s) need not to apply again.
