What is Law-GAT?
Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) is a test taken by HEC to evaluate the ability of law graduates in Pakistan. All the law students, who want to be part of law professionals are required to qualify HEC Law-GAT according to the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s orders of resumption.
Why HEC Law-GAT?
Supreme Court ordered to resume Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) on March 6, 2018, by Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) through the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The main purposes of taking the Law-GAT test are:
- Proper scrutiny of law graduates
- Evaluation of professionalism
- To filter out the flux holding degrees not skills
- To assess basic knowledge of the law
- Allow students to participate in law practice
Hence, a law graduate only becomes eligible to apply to a bar council for enrollment as an advocate if he/she qualifies for the Law-GAT conducted by ETC-HEC.
Eligibility Criteria
Any candidate can apply for Law Graduate Assessment (Law-GAT) test if he/she:
- Has passed bachelor’s or equivalent degree
- HEC/PBC must recognize the university from where he/she completed
- Students have a maximum of five (5) chances to qualify for Law-GAT, So any student with already taken the test five-time & failed is no more eligible to apply again.

Law-GAT test date & slips
Law Graduate Assessment Test will be tentatively held in July. The competent authority can revise the test schedule. To stay updated keep visiting this or ETC Website. The students who have registered for Law GAT can download their slips from the given website nearly a week before the test. An Email or SMS will be sent to applicants for the test date, time & center location.

Students are required to bring the following on Law-GAT test day:
- Print of Slip
- Original CNIC
- Deposited fee challan with Bank stamp on it

How to apply for Law-GAT?
The following steps can help you get registered for Law-GAT online:
- Open ETC Website in your browser.
- Fill online form step by step by filling up your correct required information.
- After completing online procedure, download online fee voucher & visit nearest HBL brand & ask them to deposit Rs.3000 in HEC A/C# 01127900567403 with account title of “Higher Education Commission (HEC)” in branch 0112.
- Upload picture of paid challan after submitting fee on ETC portal from where you get registered.
